How to enrol:
Click here to enrol online using secure encryption technology.

Course description:

Do you want to learn basic music literacy? Do you want to learn:

  • How to read standard music notation?
  • Basic music theory? Rhythm? Melody? Harmony?

Do you want to learn how to play the ukulele? Do you want to learn:

  • How to play melodies? (Like a recorder or violin plays melody).
  • How to play chords as accompaniment? (Like a guitar or piano plays accompaniment).

This course combines a basic music literacy course with learning how to play the ukulele. You will learn a solid foundation in music literacy that you can apply to any other instrument.

This course is suitable for raw beginners who have never picked up a musical instrument in their life, but would like a solid foundation in music. The ukulele is one of the easiest instruments for a beginner to learn. It can play melodies like a wind instrument but frees up the mouth so that you can sing and play at the same time. It can play chords for accompaniment like a guitar or piano but is smaller, much more portable, and less physically demanding.

This course is also suitable for ukulele players who have been only strumming basic chords and want to move beyond that. You will learn how to play single note melodies. You will learn to read standard music notation. You will understand how chords are built.

Read this before enrolling in this course.

If you intend to enrol in this course please contact the instructor Jay first on 0404902128. Participants will need to supply their own ukulele.

Aside from free handouts provided by the instructor, there is also a required text, “Play Ukulele Today!” by James Hill and J. Chalmers Doane that Jay will bulk order for the class for an extra fee payable to the instructor, estimated at around $10:
